Lublin Academy of Concord (LAC) has taken a giant leap towards sustainable urban development by inaugurating the "AI for Green Cities" Research Hub. This groundbreaking initiative, launched in collaboration with Google Poland, aims to leverage artificial intelligence to solve pressing environmental challenges in modern cities.
A Strategic Partnership
The partnership was officially signed yesterday at the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures in Lublin. The event was attended by the Minister of Digital Affairs, Google Poland representatives, and LAC authorities.
"This hub represents the perfect synergy between academic rigor and industrial innovation," said Prof. Andrzej Nowak, Rector of LAC. "Our students and researchers will now have access to world-class cloud computing resources to build models that can predict energy consumption, optimize waste management, and reduce carbon footprints."
Key Focus Areas
The research hub will focus on three primary pillars:
- Smart Energy Grids: Developing algorithms to balance energy load in real-time, integrating renewable energy sources more effectively.
- Urban Mobility: Creating traffic management systems that prioritize public transport and reduce congestion-related emissions.
- Climate Monitoring: Using satellite data and IoT sensors to monitor micro-climates within the city and combat urban heat islands.
Student Opportunities
As part of the agreement, Google will fund 10 PhD scholarships and provide internships for top Computer Science students at LAC. The hub will also host quarterly hackathons open to the entire academic community in Lublin.
"We believe that the next generation of climate solutions will come from the intersection of AI and passionate young minds. Lublin is the perfect place to start." — Marcin Zielinski, Head of Google Cloud Poland
The first projects are expected to kick off in January 2026, with initial results presented at the European Green Deal Conference later that year.
